Dear Friends,

I am sure you know that Mallika Sarabhai is standing as an Independent candidate from the Gandhinagar constituency, opposing Shri L. K. Advani. The challenge as well as the significance of Mallika’s effort is relevant not just to those of us in this constituency but to any citizen concerned about the future of Indian democracy. Gujarat is on a roll with its hype on industrial advancement at any cost. Yet the State’s human development indicators remain appalling. Worst of all, there is neither regret nor any effort at reconciliation after the pogrom of 2002. For these past seven years, Gujarat has remained a deeply divided State with very little hope of justice for those who suffered in the worst massacre since Partition. It is these factors that lend great importance to Mallika Sarabhai’s campaign. A voice needs to be heard loud and strong that good governance demands economic advancement within the constit-utional context of justice, equity and freedom from fear. Good governance is about learning from the past, not burying it. Entrepreneurship is not all that India’s future demands of its citizens. Indeed, industrial progress must have a foundation of enduring peace and justice—and it is for this that Mallika’s campaign is being fought.

Money is essential to allow Mallika’s effort to reach every corner of the Gandhinagar constituency. She is entirely dependent on public support, which is the essence of her campaign as an Independent. Every contribution from Rs 10 and up is welcome! Please help. The attachment will tell you how. This campaign is for all of us.
