All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) Demands for the immediate resignation of Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and the immediate stoppage of the final India-US trade agreement! Appeal to farmers to participate in the nationwide protest against the India-US trade agreement called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on July 22!
New Delhi, July 13, 2026: The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has demanded the immediate resignation of the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal. The Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has been held directly responsible for keeping the country’s farmers, Parliament, and state governments in the dark regarding the India-US trade negotiations. The Kisan Sabha has accused Minister Piyush Goyal of trading away both the interests of farmers and the sovereignty of the country. The All India Kisan Sabha has warned that the central government should immediately stop this final India-US trade agreement, which is likely to be signed in the last week of July 2026, and that farmers will not accept any trade agreement made by keeping farmers and Parliament in the dark.
At no stage of the said India-US trade agreement negotiations were farmers, their organizations, or the elected representatives of the people taken into confidence. Agriculture is constitutionally a state subject, yet not a single state government was consulted. No meaningful information regarding the commitments made in agriculture, dairy, services, and digital trade was provided to Parliament. The entire negotiation process has been conducted behind a wall of secrecy. While mortgaging the future of nearly 80 crore people dependent on agriculture, the government has revealed almost nothing.
Shri Piyush Goyal has repeatedly misled and deceived the people of India. In Parliament, he claimed that this agreement "fully" protects the fundamental sensitivities of the agriculture and dairy sectors, and also accused opponents of misleading farmers. In reality, the interim framework agreement of February 6, 2026, has opened India’s market to American soybean oil, animal feed (DDGS), sorghum, dry fruits, fruits, wine, and spirits. On June 25 in London, he stated that India cannot reach an agreement with the US until a framework for "competitive advantages" is established. Within a few days, he announced that he sees "no difficulty" with the US and that concessions are "mostly finalized." These contradictory government statements are proof that the Minister is making a fool of the country.
This interim agreement traps India into commitments to purchase American energy, coal, information technology, agricultural products, and other products including dairy items, worth over 500 billion US dollars. It forces India to abolish tariffs on a wide range of American agricultural and industrial goods. It dismantles the non-tariff protections that safeguard Indian agriculture and opens the door for genetically modified (GM) food and seeds, as well as the open import of heavily subsidized American wheat, corn, soybean, cotton, and dairy products, which is a recipe for destroying the livelihoods of approximately 86 percent of India’s small and marginal farmers. Shri Piyush Goyal is equally responsible for a chain of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Britain (effective from July 15), the European Union, and New Zealand. Each of these agreements is detrimental to Indian agriculture and hands over the Indian market to corporate control without providing any guarantee of farmers’ income.
This is not merely an estimate of damage. Rather, it has already become clear that the onslaught of duty-free imports has caused cotton and soybean prices to crash. The central government abolished the import duty on cotton between August and December 2025, and imports surged massively. According to the Cotton Association of India, cotton imports reached approximately 50 lakh bales in the 2025-26 season, compared to 41 lakh bales in the previous year. In December 2025, cotton prices plummeted to between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 7,000 per quintal, well below the government’s declared Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs. 7,710. The story of soybean is no different. In October 2025, the all-India average price of soybean was approximately Rs. 3,942 per quintal, which was nearly 26 percent lower than the MSP of Rs. 5,328. Now, with American imports being brought in under the interim agreement with zero import duty, it is certain that the price crisis for cotton and soybean farmers will deepen further in the 2026-27 season.
Indians have had to pay with their lives for the cost of losing the country’s sovereignty. In June 2026, three Indian sailors were killed in a US attack on the oil tanker MT Settebello in the Gulf of Oman as part of the blockade of Iranian oil. India did not even protest in sufficiently strong language. At the same time, under US pressure, the central government has agreed to reduce oil purchases from Russia and Iran, thereby undermining the country’s energy security and independent foreign policy. The Modi government could not save the lives of Indian workers on the high seas, and this same government is now bargaining away the livelihoods of Indian farmers at the negotiating table.
The brass of this policy of surrender has been exposed by the statements made openly in America by Shri Ram Madhav of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. The history of the Sangh Parivar is one of appeasement and surrender since the British era. India first gave up oil purchases from Iran and then from Russia, endured punitive tariffs, and has surrendered one concession after another in the name of "partnership." Ram Madhav has spoken openly what was being said in hushed tones. What this government propagates as "strategic autonomy" is in reality strategic surrender and the trading of national sovereignty.
Therefore, the All India Kisan Sabha appeals to farmers across the country to participate in the nationwide protest called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on July 22, 2026. AIKS appeals to every farmers’ organization to unite with the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and create a broad unity of farmers against the India-US trade agreement and all other anti-farmer trade agreements with other countries, namely India-Britain, India-European Union, India-New Zealand, India- Australia, etc. All farmers are also demanding a central law guaranteeing a remunerative MSP based on the Swaminathan formula at C2+50 percent rates for all crops, along with comprehensive loan waivers.
The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) has demanded the immediate resignation of Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goyal and firmly reiterates its demand that the central government immediately stop the final India-US trade agreement likely to be signed in the last week of July 2026. The full text of the India-US agreement and all FTAs must be placed before Parliament, state governments, and farmers’ representatives without any concealment, otherwise, a volcano of farmers’ agitation will be inevitable.
