A Pakistani Left Party expresses disappointment with the statements of CPI and CPM on India’s military strikes on Pakistan | May 2025
Saturday 10 May 2025
#socialtagsComrades, we in Pakistan are disappointed with the statement of CPI and CPM on the war. [see statements of the CPI and the CPM posted below]
The statements are viewing Operation Sindhoor only from the point of view of “security”.
But please consider that Indian government has said it will not uphold the Indus Water Treaty 1960. And accordingly, they have closed the water of Chenab (you may verify from Dawn).
Comrades what does closing the water have to do with terrorism in Kashmir or with security of India?
This is a war between two neo-colonial bourgeois states that have degenerated into right wing populism.
Both India and Pakistan have used this conflict for the last 8 decades to destroy the class struggle and to demonise each other.
While this conflict has been sparked by Pahalgam attack but its roots are far deeper. They actually lie in a reactionary religious nationalism that has justified the complete destruction of progressive values in both countries.
We hope Indian left will see through this facade and call for Pakistan India peace.
We also want to take this opportunity not only to express solidarity with victims of the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam but also to say that those responsible should be brought to justice.
In solidarity

Press Release
CPI on Operation Sindoor by Indian Armed Forces
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued today (May 7, 2025) the following statement:
The Communist Party of India (CPI) acknowledges the launch of Operation Sindoor by the Indian Armed Forces, targeting terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This operation follows the gruesome terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national.
Given the grave provocation and loss of innocent lives, CPI believes that India had little choice but to respond firmly against the sources of such terrorism. The targeted nature of the strikes—avoiding Pakistani military assets and focusing solely on terrorist infrastructure—demonstrates a calibrated and non-escalatory approach, prioritizing accountability without inviting full-scale conflict.
At the same time, CPI urges the Government of India to immediately call for an all-Party meeting to strengthen national consensus and collective resolve in the fight against terrorism. We reiterate the importance of pursuing diplomatic avenues to prevent further escalation and preserve peace in our region and also to arrive at political solutions.
We also call upon the Government of Pakistan, which itself has suffered from the scourge of terrorism, to dismantle all terror networks operating from its soil. Only a joint regional resolve can end the cycle of violence and ensure long-term peace and security for our peoples.
Let this be a moment of unity, strength, and unwavering commitment to justice and secular values of the people of India.

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
On Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was carried out by the Indian armed forces with the objective of destroying terrorist camps and infrastructure in PoK and Pakistan. According to the armed forces, these strikes were focused, measured and non-escalatory and carried out successfully at nine places.
In the All Party Meeting convened by the Union Government, all the political parties had extended support to the measures taken by the Union Government aimed against the terrorists and their handlers.
Along with these actions, pressure should be continued on Pakistan to hand over those responsible for the massacre of innocent people in Pahalgam and to ensure that no terrorist camps operate from its territory. The Indian government should ensure that the unity of the people and integrity of the country are protected.
