Press Release 08 February 2024

Speaking on the 2024-25 interim budget CPI parliamentary party leader Binoy Viswam said in Rajya Sabha that apart from giving farce promises, the government has failed in making a productive and fruitful interim budget that targets the welfare of the people. He said that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman is going on making guarantees akin to Narendra Modi.
“The country has the right to ask the government what happened to the previous guarantees made by BJP and Narendra Modi. The guarantees on employment, emancipation of poor and women, housing, and healthcare are dead and lost on the states. Yet Prime Minister goes on making guarantees inside and outside the parliament.” he said.

Political compulsions are making the finance minister repeat the same guarantees. The liquidation of subsidies on food, agriculture, fertilizer, and health care will be questioned by the people. India will witness a bandh by the rural poor and workers on February 16 against the anti-people regime of BJP. The Union government is in favour of Adani. Such a government will never work for the poor people.

The LDF government of Kerala was compelled to stage a protest today against the discrimination and fiscal strangling by the Union government. People of Kerala are being punished for their high achievements in the social sector. Only yesterday, government of Karnataka staged a similar protest. There is growing unrest against BJP’s assault on federalism and states’ rights. Narendra Modi said that the people who protest against fiscal strangling are making a “north-south” divide. But in reality, people are getting united to save federalism and resist the BJP government from axing the financial stability of states.
