An Apology

We sincerely apologise for a highly serious mistake which has occurred in the July 6, 2013 issue of Mainstream. The article, “Don’t belittle the Army, Mr Rambo-Nambo” (which also figures in the select list of articles displayed on the cover), was not written by Major-General (Retd.) Sudhir Vombatkere but Ms Priyanka Chaturvedi and appeared in the Tehelka blog on June 27. Major-General Vombatkere had sent it to us with the details of the Tehelka website. Unfortunately due an oversight we thought it was Major-General Vombatkere’s article and hence published it as such.

We apologise to Major-General Vombatkere, Ms Priyanka Chaturvedi, Tehelka and, above all, our readers for this inadvertent and yet inexcusable mistake for which the Editor is taking full responsibility. For the benefit of our readers, we wish to reiterate that the author of the aforementioned article is not Major-General (Retd.) Sudhir Vombatkere but Ms Priyanka Chaturvedi and it appeared in the Tehelka blog from where it was reproduced, with due acknowledgement, in the July 6 issue of Mainstream. (Necessary changes to this effect have already been made in the Mainstream website.)

Once again we express our profound apologies and promise to prevent recurrence of such a development in future. —Editor
