Prime Minister Narendra Modi has found a "new enemy" to attack in most of his discourses whom he calls "Urban Naxals". He accuses them of trying to "destabilise" India by "tarnishing its image by joining hands with domestic and foreign forces".

Modi unleashed this campaign against the "Urban Naxals" for the first time in his address to a jubilant crowd of BJP workers celebrating the victory of the party in Haryana Assembly elections at party headquarters in Delhi.

Though the common people, the masses, who do not understand whom Modi is referring to by calling them "Urban Naxals", it is not hidden from the intelligentsia and educated classes of the coutry and the purpose behind this attack.

It is now clear that the Prime Minister and his cohorts are not even prepared to tolerate the moderate or mild constructive criticism of the ruling dispensation and it’s policies by an unbiased group of educated intellectuals or media persons. Modi is not prepared to take a note of the serious concerns these groups have been expressings towards the disasterous policies being adopted by his party and Govt through their writings or public addresses. Instead, he has chosen to abuse them and naming them as enemies of the country.

Addressing the so-called "Ekta Divas"rally in Ahmedabad on 31st October marking the 149th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallab Bhai Patel, Modi has once again attacked this new found enemy by saying
" some sources, some distorted mindsets, both within and outside India, are deeply unsettled by the country’s growing strength and unity."

Attacking these forces further, he said " They aim to spread instability and anarchy and are actively working against India’s economic interests. These forces want to send a wrong message to global investors, painting a negative image of India," he added.

Modi called for identifying the "Urban Naxalites just as we defeated Naxalism that thrived in forests. We need to recognise those who work under the false guise and dream of breaking India and we must firmly stand against them."

Modi’s anger against this "new enemy" is understandable in view of the massive campaign undertaken by several organisations led by middle class intellectuals all over the country in general and in Maharashtra in particular expoxing the regressive policies being followed by the ruling BJP and its allies and being promoted by Modi himself.

The active criticism by Congress and its INDIA Bloc Alliance of various anti-democratic measures being adopted by BJP and its NDA allies has definitely become a soar point for Modi. But the most irritable amongst them is the awareness that has been created on a very wider scale among the masses, partularly in Maharashtra is stinging Modi most. However, his angry tirade is going to prove like Modi beating an imaginary snake on the ground with a broken lathi!!!

In the meantime, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge has taken to task both Karnataka Chief Minister Sidda-ramaih and his deputy D K Shivakumar for their "irresponsible" public statements hinting at the Sate Govt "revising" or withdrawing the five election guarantees which they have successfully implemented.

He said "you have implemented the five guarantees and the Congress is now planning to emulate it in poll-bound Maharashtra. But your statements are likely to create confusion and doubts in the minds of the people there " Kharge asked the C M and Dy CM to keep away from their "sycophants". who always try to create confusion.
