Punish the culprits in the case of rape and murder of young female doctor in Kolkata - IDPD

Take effective measures to curb violence against women and provide safety measures at workplace

The recent tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in a medical college hospital of Kolkata is deeply horrifying and has shocked the entire community and the country. Such acts of violence are utterly reprehensible and have no place in a civilized society. This incident is a stark reminder of the persistent threat to the safety and dignity of women, even in spaces where they should feel secure. In the case of doctors it is even more important as the female doctors have to work day and night at any odd hour and in any difficult situation. Their security must be ensured by the authorities concerned. It is unfortunate that the Government of India has not yet agreed to frame laws against violence on doctors.

Indian Doctors for Peace and Development demands that authorities must ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice swiftly. It’s crucial for law enforcement agencies to take strong action not only in this case but also to address the broader issues of violence against women. Strengthening the legal framework, ensuring swift justice, and raising awareness about the safety and rights of women are essential steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The community must also come together to support the victim’s family and advocate for a society where every individual, regardless of gender, can live without fear of violence or discrimination. This incident should serve as a catalyst for change, sparking urgent discussions and actions on how to make our cities safer for everyone.

We call upon all the units of IDPD to hold protests.
