Indians for Palestine

STOP THE GENOCIDE! CEASEFIRE NOW!
END THE ILLEGAL ISRAELI OCCUPATION
FREE PALESTINE
INDIAN GOVT MUST END ALL TIES WITH ISRAEL

New Delhi, 9 August 2024

Indians for Palestine held a silent display of solidarity with the people of Palestine to demand for CEASEFIRE and urge the Government of India to stop all ties with Israel for the time being.

We have been detained despite informing the Delhi Police about our gathering near the APJ Abdul Kalam crossing.

Indian government along with some public and private sector companies’ complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza is well known. We have heard of Adani Defence and Aerospace Ltd., but there are other culprits as well - Munitions India and Premier Explosive, in addition to the government itself
which has approved not just the provision of militarized cargo to Israel but also the shipment of Indian workers to Israel, a move that puts their lives at risk.

India has committed to various international laws and treaties that prevent it from supplying military weapons to countries involved in war crimes. This is because such exports could be used in serious violations of international humanitarian law. Under the Genocide Convention, which India has signed and ratified, India is required to take all possible steps to prevent genocide. This means that India cannot export military equipment or weapons to Israel if there’s a serious risk that these weapons might be used to commit war crimes.

According to Article III of the Genocide Convention, any state that is complicit in genocide can be held accountable.

Therefore, we Indians for Palestine, demand the immediate stoppage of arms supply to Israel and the end of all official ties between India and Israel for the time being.

We encourage the people of India to show their solidarity with Palestinians by standing against the Indian State that is complicit in the genocide in Gaza and the oppression of Palestine. We call for Indians to boycott companies and products that support the illegal occupation and take action in line with the BDS movement.

People of India will continue to stand with Palestinians and our actions of solidarity and demand for a ceasefire will continue.

Those detained today include CPI leader and activist Annie Raja, Economist Prof Jean Dreze, Activists Nadeem Khan, Priyadharshini, Researcher and Academicians Vijayan MJ, Anjali S and Prakriti.
