Press release on Waynad Disaster 30 July 2024

All India Kisan pays heartfelt condolences to the citizens, farmers and labourers who died in the natural calamity of Wayanad landslide in Kerala...! For the rescue & relief work of landslide victims, AIKS workers in Kerala are active along with LDF Kerala Government machinery which is working on war footing.

The Narendra Modi-led Union Government should immediately activate all its machinery NDRF Military for the rescue & relief work in Waynad. The Union Government should immediately release compensation to families who lost dearones in the accident along every affected families affected in the disaster. Union Government should establish relief Camps with complete livelihood support along with complete rehabilitation of the affected families.

The BJP led Narendra Modi Government should give up its narrow political interest & attitude towards LDF Kerala Government and provide all the necessary help and funds to the Kerala government urgently. Along with this, the funds withheld till date should be made available immediately to the LDF Government. The Union Government should change its discriminatory attitude towards people of Kerala.

A Commission should be formed for such disasters in which state governments, farmers, citizens & scientists should be represented.
Along with this, AIKS demands that the Union Government should create a special fund for such disasters and take responsibility to provide full assistance to the state governments. Farmers & labourers whose land, livestock and other essential items have been destroyed should be given full compensation along with the loss of job days & opportunities of rural labourers & artisans

Many reports about the sensitive environment of the Western Ghats, such as the Madhav Gadgil report, have been neglected till date. Such incidents are increasing in the Western Ghats which is actually formed by lava. Earliear such disasters occurred in Western Ghat specially in Sahyadri Malin village in Pune district (30 July 2014) and Irshalwadi village in the Raigad district (19 July 2023) in Maharashtra, Reoccurrence of such disasters has become a very serious matter. Such disasters has been mentioned at COP 27 & explained as Greed For profit of the corporate and financial capital in developed countries is responsible for natural disasters by contributing to Global warming & financing unscientific development.

Narendra Modi’s BJP government has changed many legal provisions by surrendering to corporate interests. Which needs to be reconsidered.

AIKS shall make every effort to help victims of this Waynad disaster.
