Peoples’ Forum urges for resumption of comprehensive dialogue between India and Pakistan

The Pakistan-India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD) warmly welcomes the suggestion that New Delhi and Islamabad resume the dialogue on outstanding differences and potential fields of cooperation between them. PIPFPD welcomes the dialogue offer by the Pakistani government and strongly urge the Indian Govt to reciprocate.

South Asia constitutes a full quarter of the world’s population but, arguably, is ranked among the lowest in indices for regional collaboration in trade, cross-border contacts, commerce, or people- to-people interaction. We believe it has resulted in the loss of a collective regional voice in the world for its two billion peoples. The absence of dialogue also means incarceration for arrested fishermen, enhanced misery for border people, losses in trade exchanges and cessation of sporting and cultural opportunities.

The start of a dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad represents an opportunity for not only the two states but the rest of the region to regain its voice and assert saliency for South Asia in international forums. In the event that such a step is taken, the PIPFPD pledges its support and looks forward to backing that with concrete measures in people-to-people initiatives to further regional understanding, cooperation and solidarity.
