India’s stand at the UN General Assembly on the resolution on the Middle East against our accepted policies of Peace and Disarmament - IDPD

The Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) has expressed anguish at the abstention of India in the voting in the UN General Assembly on the resolution for ceasefire and peace in the Middle East. This is a total hypocrisy on the part of the Indian government and a reflection of its insensitivity towards the genocide being carried out in Gaza where over 3000 children have been killed in the bombardment. On one side Indian government is sending aid to the affected people in Gaza on the other hand it is supporting the war to continue. This is against all humanitarian values. It is also against India’s accepted policy of restoring legitimate rights to the Palestinians. Even Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had also said that Palestinians to be given their due rights. We demand a ceasefire to be declared immediately so as to end the war and UNGA resolution to be effectively enforced. We condemn the action of Hamas in Israel, but let us remember the statement of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that a Hamas action did not take place in a vacuum. It is only peace and dialogue that can resolve the issue and ensure lasting peace in the region.
