Press Release

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement today (January 27, 2021) urging the government to accept the farmers’ demand and to repeal the farm laws:

The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India congratulates the farmers and their unions for the successful tractor rally on January 26, 2021, the Republic Day.
The ongoing farmers’ agitation has already acquired a Pan-India dimension. The country has been witnessing protests and solidarity actions in all the states. The CPI reiterates its support and solidarity to the agitating farmers. The party extends its support to the decision of the farmers’ unions to continue the struggle.

The CPI urges upon the government not to be rigid but to be realistic and reasonable to accept the demands of the farmers for repealing the three anti-farmer farm laws.
The untoward incidents in the national capital during the tractor rally should not detract the focus from the primary issue of repeal of the laws. The party appreciates the peaceful and non-violent conduct of the farmers in the midst of agent provocateurs and repressive measures of police such as lathi-charge, tear gas, etc.

The CPI once again urges the government to repeal the three farm laws in the forthcoming budget session of the Parliament.
